A few weeks ago, I shared my story on how I escaped an abusive marriage, with my son, Aimery. I went through a lot of change after that, culminating in my life and career now. I’m the CEO and founder of the Being Agency, which focuses on supporting mom’s who blog.
After I was able to get back up on my feet, thanks to the agency and a renewed focus on work, I knew that it was time to start focusing on my mental health and the healthy habits that I learned in counseling, to be a better person and mother. Although it was hard at first, with all of the stress of being a single mother and running a business, I knew that it was important to get into healthier routines. I wanted to be working out, eating healthy, and meditating.
The last couple years of my life have really shaped me into the person I am today, and have stressed to me the importance of mental health and healthy habits. Although I am so happy with where my life has come, I am still growing into who I want to be. This season of my life is all about adapting new rituals into my morning routine that get me in the right mindset and ready to conquer each day. Keep reading for five things I am working towards in this season of life.
I always try to make sure I set my alarm to wake up before Aimery does, especially on weekdays. During this time, I try to prepare for the day, whether that be packing him a lunch, returning emails, or just sitting down with a cup of coffee. Setting this time aside in the morning allows me a moment for myself, so when he wakes up I can devote my full attention to him. This also makes me feel more prepared to take on work and parenting.
Feeding my body a better breakfast has really impacted my health, especially mentally. I’ve found that starting off my day with the right fuel can improve my mood, as well as productivity. Acai bowls are my go-to and so fun to make, since I can mix them up with different berries, seeds, nuts, etc. Smoothies are also great for morning when I’m pressed for time.
With being inside, I have to get creative with the ways I get in my daily exercise. Yoga has been so beneficial, not only for my physical health but also my mental health. I love that I can set up my mat and complete a session right from the comfort of my own home. I always end my sessions feeling empowered and ready to take on the day.
Fueling your brain means more than eating nutritious foods. I love starting my morning by ingesting inspirational content to get myself in the best headspace. It’s helped me so much creatively. Listening to motivational podcasts or reading relatable articles is my favorite way to do this.
I had heard great things about meditation in the mornings, but always felt like I didn’t have time. I started out by committing myself to just 2 minutes a day, that way it was simple enough to do, until I made it a habit. This is the last thing I do right before I go to wake up Aimery and has been such a great conclusion to my routine. Sometimes, if he gets up on his own before I finish meditating, I encourage him to join me! It’s never too early to start healthy habits.
When I look back at the last few years of my life, I can’t believe how much I’ve changed as a person, in such a short amount of time. I’ve gone through things I would have never expected but have learned so many lessons even through the worst times. Above all, mental health is just as important as your physical health and you have to take care of yourself as such. There's small adjustments you can make to your daily routines that can make a whole world of difference.
